When did being an illegal alien ENTITLE you? I read this article on WSBTV.com today and it made me angry! Why, how, when did these people feel it was okay to be in our country illegally? And why are so many Americans not opposed to them receiving benefits? I know they come to this country to have a better life. I am all for that, but there is a right and wrong way to do it. I have a friend from Brazil. She immigrated here when she was in high school legally. I graduated college with her. She married an American man and has 3 children. It wasn't until she was pregnant with her 2nd child that she received her citizenship. Not because she was waiting, because it took her that long to go thru the process. But she did it the right way. She was proud to be here the right way. When did we let it be okay for these selfish people who think they belong here and are entitled to be here??? Ughhh!

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-35765858481113034342011-04-04T16:51:00.000-07:002011-04-04T17:02:52.869-07:00Can you please make up your mind?Dearest Mother Nature,

After surviving a grueling winter of freezing temperatures and snowpocalypse every other week, I have yet another bone to pick with you. I know I often complain about the pollen and to be honest was thankful for the rain last week. And then I quite enjoyed the beautiful weekend weather we have had. And today, well today it was 81! BEAUTIFULLY perfect! But tonight severe storms are supposed to roll in. I can deal with those storms but what I cannot deal with is the fact that it was 81 today and tomorrow it is going to be 57. REALLY??? Can we have a little smaller of a variance? I know it is spring and spring usually means that the temps go up and down but that much? I could deal with say 81 to 65 but geez!

Yours truly,

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-85912261738792392802011-03-28T20:26:00.000-07:002011-03-28T20:54:47.869-07:00Balancing ActLife is all about balance. How much time to spend with your friends vs family. Spending money on what you want vs. what you need. Having the car you want vs. one that you can afford. Finding this balance is always a little tricky. I was raised in a home that taught me the importance of family, friendships, and the value of a dollar.

I will be the first (and probably proudest) to tell you that I have no problem going straight to the clearance rack in any store. Yes, even the grocery store! Even in shopping strictly the clearance you can find yourself in trouble financially. This is where the what you want vs what you need comes in to play.

So where is the fine line? Its never clear. And it is never in the same place for everyone, each person has to find their own. (Ha! Thought I was going to be wise and tell you exactly where it was...nope, no can do!) I am on a search for mine. Yes, even a person with a Finance degree has to find their line. Now, I am not terribly in debt, in no way of losing my home or car, and no remote chance of going bankrupt. But, I own a home, that has expenses. I am at an age where I can't just spend and splurge all the time, instead I need to save some. But, there is no need to go to extremes. It is a balancing act afterall...

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-50938913566505972322011-03-27T16:45:00.001-07:002011-03-28T17:34:57.661-07:00Why I love my Church...I seriously love my church! It is rather large. We have 3 services, 2 blended and one contemporary. But, while it is large, it feels small. We have all ages...from the 80 year olds to the 2 year olds. I have a family there. I am involved with the singles and I love these people. I have such a great group of friends that will keep me laughing to the point of squeaking, accountable when I get out of line, and tell me they love me when I both acting crazy and then when I am not in the best of moods. They are the best girlfriends and guy friends a girl could ask for.

Today was our church wide brunch. Instead of having service and Sunday School, we came together and had brunch. Dr. Lee spoke on how we are all a family. That we do not say my God, but OUR God. He is all of our Father which makes us all brothers and sisters and we look out for our family. I just thought it was neat how old and young, small and large, everyone could come together as a family.

Those are just a few reasons why I love my church! Do you have a church to call home? Do you love your church? Do you have a church family?

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-62688389397496753222011-03-11T10:16:00.000-08:002011-03-28T17:35:28.409-07:00Stir CrazyWhat does one do when they are stuck inside their home for 3 days? The past 2 days were not to bad because the weather was yucky but today, I look outside and two things happen. 1) I am longing to be out there basking in the sunshine where it is warm and letting the pup's play and 2) I wince and remember how bad the sunshine is killing my head and that if I go out these allergies will flair up and I will be home bound longer. Apparently I have a sinus infection and am "highly contagious" according to my doctor. So, here I am day number 3 stuck inside with the puppies (who are thoroughly enjoying my being home) and I can't go anywhere, see anyone etc. Yep, the stir crazy is setting in!

Oh and by the way, my laptop is back in action after a month and a half of not having it because the adapter died!

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-17001163722951670132011-01-20T18:38:00.000-08:002011-01-22T11:20:29.570-08:00Hi there!Kelly's Korner is having a show us your life singles edition. She has done it before and I thought to myself that it was a crazy idea but since I am trying to step out of my comfort zone this year I thought I would give it a try. (Sorry for the run on sentence there!)

So about me...

I am 28 and own my own home. I bought my cute little cape cod style home in June of '09 and I love it! I work for a Fortune 500 company in a profession I never thought I would get in to but love it and am considering getting my masters in it! I am a Christian and am involved with the singles group at my church. I have 2 puppies that are quite entertaining and I post a lot about them. I am a southern girl at heart born and raised here in Georgia. I LOVE my UGA Bulldogs and in the fall do not think of disturbing me during a game! Yes, I understand football and can hold a very lengthy conversation about it. Most of my extended family was all boys growing up so I was the football when we played together! That is just a little about me!

On my way to a friend's wedding ...

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; I spent most of Sunday evening in denial thinking we were not going to get any snow. I looked outside at 11 pm and absolutely nothing...at 11:30pm 2 inches of snow! I am getting cabin fever from being stuck at the house. I have worked from home the past 2 days because the roads are so bad. The snow has a 1/4 inch layer of ice on top of it. Hershey is none to happy about going outside and I have let Chloe out only twice because she will get lost in the snow! Here are a few pictures....

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-60623658331949394312011-01-06T18:28:00.000-08:002011-01-06T18:37:56.201-08:00Book Review #1

I just finished reading "The Third Secret" by Steve Berry. It was a good book and fairly easy to read. If you like the DaVinci Code then you would probably enjoy this book. It takes place within the Vatican and its main characters are the Pope, his Papal Secretary, and a few other important higher ups in the Roman Catholic Church. While this was a fiction story there is A LOT of fact in the book. It references John Paul II and other past Pope's. The story surrounds the apparitions of the Virgin Mary that took place in Fatima in 1917. The story line surrounds this apparition and reveals that there was more to the third secret that John Paul II revealed in 2000. This is the fiction part... or is it? The only negative comment I have is that the book sped up and slowed down quite a bit so by the end I was just ready for it to end but over all it was a good easy read!
Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-57838043054686537372011-01-05T19:29:00.000-08:002011-01-05T19:38:50.990-08:00Happy New Year! (5 days late!)So as I began to think of the new year starting and the fact that I am turning the big 3-0 in just 17 very short months I thought I needed to get back on the blog band wagon. Mostly to hold my self accountable for my goals/resolutions that I am making. I thought about doing 30 before 30 but I knew I would probably not achieve that many items...that and I couldn't think of 30 things! So I am just going to randomly set goals for myself over the next year and a half starting with these:

1) Let go... reduce my control. Let things just flow. I love to be in control and know how everything is going to flow and end. I think that I would gain so much from others and learn a lot if I just let loose a little and let everything go with the flow.

2) Attend church service (not just Sunday School Class) 3 out of 4 Sunday's each month.

3) Be on time! I am a notorious 5 minute late person!

4) Be financially more stable.

5) Replace my roof.

6) Teach Chloe to be a more sociable dog. (And Hershey too!)

7) Read 12 books in 12 months and write a blog review. I have almost finished my book for January so I will post a review soon.

8) Blog more often! This will help make me remember events and things I have done!

I am sure there will be more to come but this is a good start!Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-34061054892608121812010-12-30T17:18:00.000-08:002010-12-30T17:59:26.436-08:00Is anyone out there???
Knock, knock...??? Is anyone still out there? Ha! I know I disappeared but life has been super busy! Who's hasn't right?

Let's see, last time I posted it was fall and Devin was having a good football season. Well all the boys ended up having pretty good seasons. Madison and Devin's teams made it to the first rounds of playoffs but unfortunately lost there. Madison won the Allstate AFCA Goodworks Team Award and will be presented an award at half time at the Sugar Bowl. (I think that was a great way to end his last year of football!)

My church group is awesome! We have done so many fun things and I have made some great friends! I am now in charge of the activities for the group and that keeps me fairly busy and stressed but I do love doing it.

Mom is busy as always with the nursing home! I went to play Santa's elf for Christmas Eve but our regular Mrs. Claus fell and broke her arm so I filled in!

Oh, and I cannot forget to mention that we had our first WHITE CHRISTMAS in 128 years! It has snowed before on Christmas but never accumulated. I was staying at my parents house so I did not get a picture of my house but here is one of theirs! I was the only girl for 12 years and if I remember correctly I used to be the football! When I was little my cousin would come home from college with his football buddies and there are pictures of them helping me hunt Easter eggs! Anyways, almost all of the boys in our family have played football in high school/college. Each year for the past several years my mother and I have made our pilgrimage to watch Madison and Landon play either high school or college ball. Devin has now joined the ranks and is turning into one heck of a player! We are very happy that they live much closer and that we are able to catch more of his games.

We sure are proud of #88 Devin O'Connor!!! Yes, I have been a busy little bee. I have joined a new church and am LOVING going to Sunday School with people my age. I cannot remember how long it has been since I was in an actual Sunday School class...probably middle/high school. We stay very busy with activities. From Braves games, to tubing in Helen, pool parties, hiking trips, and next weekend is a rafting trip on the Ocoee. (See, I told you I was a busy bee.) I finally got my deck rebuilt. It looks AMAZING!!!! Now I just need to do a little....errr LOT....of landscaping and my back yard will be in tip top shape. For the 4th of July I head up to my Aunt Nancy's house on the lake. I spent 4 days laying out on the dock and you can barely tell I was in the sun! It was an eye opening experience when my 16 year old cousin (who I changed his diapers and was at the hospital the day he was born.) drove us to get fireworks. I really can't be that old! The puppies are doing well. I have been transitioning them from being in their kennels all day to staying out in the living room/kitchen area. They are doing well so far with that and I feel much better knowing they have room to play and stretch. And finally, work is still going well. I like my job and we have been super busy with fiscal year change. I hope to do better at posting. Maybe even get some pictures up!Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-42880229234102844802010-05-20T17:09:00.001-07:002010-05-20T17:22:27.407-07:00Take me out to the ball game...Tuesday night I headed to Turner Field with 5 of my new friends from church to see the Braves take on the New York Mets. This was the view we had. We had outfield seats and could barely see the ball when it was pitched.

But we still had a lot of fun! Here are the girls...Myself, Jennifer, and Kristen. It was a pretty good game. The Braves scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Jennifer and I had gone to get something to eat and missed Troy Glaus hitting a home run! Jeff Francour, who now plays for the Mets, scored a home run in the top of the 5th. Everytime he came up to bat the crowd BOOOO'ed him! And whoever caught his home run ball threw it back on the field! The Mets tied it up in the top of the 5th and the game was scoreless until the 9th inning. In the top of the 9th the Mets came way to close to winning but the Braves held them off. And then in the bottom of the 9th the Braves had a man on 1st and 2nd and Melky Cabrera hit the ball to 3rd where it was caught and thrown to 1st but it bounced out of the 1st baseman's glove and we were able to score, winning the game 3 to 2!Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-28406500311296211512010-05-10T17:21:00.001-07:002010-05-10T17:31:52.760-07:00Out with the old...In with the new...

What do you do when your dogs cause destruction to your precious laptop? It provides light in the dark, heat in the cold, air in the heat, electricity to turn on TV's, alarm clocks, and laptops. Needless to say it provides a lot of useful things. Useful things you don't realize you are in need of until it is gone. I arrived home this evening to a power truck pulling up in front of my driveway. When I walked into my house I noticed that the clocks were out which told me the power was out. I thought it was no big deal since the power company had just pulled up. Boy was I wrong. After eating dinner, reading for a while, and finally resorting to taking a nap, I had had enough. Apparently instead of turning my power back on they had simply checked and left. So, I placed a call to report my power outage. Luckily, they responded in about 30 minutes and quickly had the power back on. But, I had my bag packed ready to head to my parents to spend the night. Funny what a simple thing you THINK power is, until it is gone! I mean, do you really think my boss would have believed me showing up late to work with wet hair and the excused of..."sorry, my power was out!"?Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-73578349947601061322010-04-26T19:25:00.000-07:002010-04-26T19:28:45.052-07:00In need of a good laugh? Are you in need of a good laugh? These are girls that know all my good traits and all my dirty little secrets. They are girls I can laugh with, cry with, ask stupid questions to (and not feel stupid asking it), but most importantly these are girls that love me for who I am. The top picture are my church girls. We were in a small group together a couple of years ago and we have been inseparable since. Life has had its ups and downs and we have faced it together. Two (almost 3) of us are married. One has a precious little boy. One now live in Las Vegas. We are each different in our own ways...but we accept that and love each other for it. (By the way, I can't find a good picture of all 8 of us!)

The second picture is my girlfriends from college...which again is not all of us. These are girls who I basically grew up with. We went thru a time in our lives together where we learned to do a lot on our own and figured out what life was really about with out your parents doing everything for you. Most of them are married with children. Its harder for us to get together but when we do its like we have never been apart.

I love both of these groups of girls and I don't know what I would do without them! If you don't have a core group of girlfriends you are missing out!

Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-3600294344707417402010-04-14T18:49:00.000-07:002010-04-15T17:58:41.671-07:00Long time no see...Its been quite some time since I posted anything. A lot has been going on but at the same time not much has been going on. I know that was a contridiction...but, hey! So whats the latest on me? Well..

- Still loving the new job. I actually don't mind going into the office 5 days a week. We have a lot of fun and laugh a lot.

- Allergy season is in full force! I was forced to break down and go to the doctor this year since I was taking the 24 hour Claritin every 12 hours. I was quickly referred to an Allergist for testing. I just hope to get some relief. The hives so far have not been fun!

- Mom's birthday is this weekend. She will be _ _ years young! Ha, you actually thought I would tell her age on here? I kind of like breathing! But, she is the best Momma a girl could ask for and I wish her only the best!

- I bought a washer and dryer. You know that your an adult when you make a big purchase like this! No more making "fun" purchases... well this was a fun purchase, just different.

- Hershey and Chloe are still doing well and getting along.

- Hershey has a few odd behavior's that we are still working thru. Certain noises drive him CRAZY! The swiffer commercial on TV...they also play it on HULU...if I don't mute it in time he will start crying and running thru the house. He also has seperation anxiety over me. If I leave him at Mom and Dad's house he gets very restless after a couple of hours and is ready to go home.

- There is a lot coming up in the next few weeks so hopefully I will be posting more...

***This one is for you mom....no more saying that I never update my blog! :)Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-62688176924625536072010-03-15T18:23:00.000-07:002010-03-15T18:45:34.876-07:0017 years ago...17 years ago today we had just lived thru the infamous "Blizzard of '93" and my parents had made it thru their wedding weekend without getting hitched! You see my parents were supposed to get married March 13th, 1993. But, that fateful Saturday morning a blizzard blew into this great state and postponed their wedding. It wasn't until 2 days later (when the preacher could finally get his garage door open and car out.) that Mom and Dad tied the knot. It was just the icing on the cake so to say. I mean after Dad broke out in hives after purchasing Mom's engagement ring (allergic reactions to med's not because he bought the ring! ;) ), Mom's car being stolen (found somewhere near GA Tech trashed), 2 flat tires on Dad's car, 2 flat tires on Poppa's truck (which Mom was driving) and another almost accident what else could possibly go wrong in preparing for a wedding. I won't mention they had probably the worse fight ever that Saturday and Mom took a 2 hour walk in the snow. But Monday evening rolled around and by golly they were getting married!

Their honeymoon cruise had been canceled so they decided to spend the night in a nice hotel in Atlanta. Ok, so maybe the ONLY hotels between the airport and Macon were in Atlanta since that happened to be race weekend. That nice hotel ran out of hot water just after Dad finished his. Mom...well poor thing had her new hubby call the front desk and demand that they be notified as soon as hot water was available. At 3:30 am the phone rang and the front desk clerk did as requested. They decided to head to St. Simons for the week...until they spent 2 days and Mom came down with the flu. So Dad, taking good care of his new wife drove her home. Although Mom tried to convince him to stop in Savannah for St. Patty's Day...they drove on, the man had better sense than that! Instead they got to Macon and stopped at my Aunt's house for supper unannounced. (Dad's sister hates that sort of thing!)

By the way, this is a true story! Some people ask them: "Don't you think that was a sign you shouldn't get married?" To any other couple maybe...but mine are just crazy enough in love (or just plain crazy enough) to ignore those so called warnings. 17 years later they are still happy.

So....

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MOM AND DAD!!!!! I LOVE YOU BOTH VERY MUCH!!!!!Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-74842919625112509292010-03-08T18:51:00.000-08:002010-03-08T19:01:02.312-08:00Nap Time

Sunday afternoon naps are just the best...especially when you can snuggle up to your tennis ball and that nagging....err...loving sister is no where around!
Melissahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09990650991956327188noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-797799569854898422.post-64185796898790479202010-02-27T08:15:00.000-08:002010-02-27T08:27:36.216-08:00Death to the Gator If you know me at all, you know that I am a die hard UGA fan. Well she and Hershey have done justice to the gator!

Oh, and if you come to my house and see those little puffs of white of my carpet, please forgive me.
